Luma S. Al-Shibib is a shareholder in the New York office of Anderson Kill. Luma focuses her practice on insurance recovery for corporate policyholders, with an emphasis on comprehensive general liability insurance, directors & officers liability insurance, and errors & omissions/professional liability insurance. Luma also has experience with corporate bankruptcy and financial restructuring issues, federal securities law, and general commercial litigation.
Luma has represented a broad array of clients, including fortune 500 companies, hedge funds, banking and lending institutions, construction services companies and developers, and state and governmental entities. She extensively advises clients on insurance coverage issues unique to the construction industry and institutions within the financial sector.
Luma is an active member of the firm's Insurance Recovery, Banking and Lending, and Real Estate and Construction groups. She also is co-chair of Anderson Kill's Diversity Committee and co-chair of Anderson Kill’s Women's Network.
While attending law school, Luma interned as a student law clerk for the Honorable Laura Taylor Swain of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Luma was also awarded the Brooklyn Law School Best Brief Award.
Ms. Al-Shibib is committed to public service, pursuing various local and international community projects in her personal time. From 2010-2012, Ms. Al-Shibib served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer to the Kalinago People in the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean, where, among other things, she worked on indigenous rights issues. She also has volunteered with the International Rescue Committee in New York, working with the refugee resettlement unit, Habitat for Humanity in Chang Mai, Thailand, and New York Cares.
