Stephen D. Palley, Chair of Anderson Kill’s Technology, Media and Distributed Systems Group, Named an Equity Partner

Anderson Kill is pleased to announce that Stephen D. Palley, chair of the firm’s Technology, Media and Distributed Systems (TMD) Group, has been named an equity partner.

Stephen, based in Anderson Kill’s Washington, D.C. office, is founder as well as chair of the firm’s TMD Group, a cross-disciplinary team that advises software, internet, and fintech companies.  He serves as an outside general counsel to technology and media startups and as a trusted advisor to established business across a range of industries, with a focus on securities and financial regulatory law.

Stephen has represented software developers in connection with the design, development and launch of a range of products, including a direct response advertising platform and several blockchain based and enabled platforms, as well as media outlets in connection with first amendment, pre-publication review and media liability matters.

A prominent voice in the blockchain and cryptocurrency communities, Stephen has written extensively and been quoted widely on legal issues arising from the use of blockchain technology, with appearances in both print and television media.  He is an editor of the International Journal of Blockchain Law (IJBL), a law journal launched in November 2021 to help non-legal communities better understand Blockchain applications and digital assets.

In addition to his experience as a technology lawyer, Stephen brings cross-disciplinary experience and recognition to his practice, particularly in insurance recovery and construction matters.  He was selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America list for Insurance Law, from 2019 through 2021, and has been recommended in The Legal 500 United States for Insurance – advice to policyholders.  He is a fellow of both the American College of Coverage and Extra Contractual Counsel (“ACCEC”) and the Construction Lawyers Society of America, and has also been recognized as Washington, D.C. "Super Lawyer" in Construction Litigation.
