Anderson Kill to Pause for Reflection on Juneteenth, June 19, 2020, and Extend Pro-Bono Legal Action to Support Racial Justice

06/18/2020

In light of the greater national recognition of continued racial injustice in the United States, Anderson Kill will pause for reflection on this year’s Juneteenth – the 19th of June, long memorialized as the day in 1865 when word finally reached the farthest reaches of the former Confederacy that slaves in the United States were free. All attorneys and staff have been urged to spend the afternoon of Juneteenth reflecting on racial injustice during which time the firm will be closed.

Robert M. Horkovich, Anderson Kill’s managing shareholder, asked Anderson Kill attorneys to consider and act upon pro bono efforts to support racial justice.

To observe Juneteenth this year, we want to offer everyone the opportunity to stop work on Friday at lunchtime and take a half day to pause and reflect on issues around racism and its impact on our country.

Juneteenth memorializes the end of slavery in the United States. We hope this time on Friday will provide an opportunity for us all to watch, read or to act in some way to support racial justice.

Along with the Firm’s Diversity and Pro Bono Committees, we will consider how, we as a firm, might better recognize this important day in the future by way of attorneys devoting some of their pro bono time to projects that contribute to racial justice and how all employees can support racial justice.
