Anderson Kill Names Joshua Gold and John G. Nevius Equity Shareholders

07/23/2013

New York, NY (July 23, 2013) – Anderson Kill is pleased to announce that Joshua Gold and John G. Nevius have been named equity shareholders in recognition of the significant contributions each has made to the firm over nearly two decades.

Josh Gold joined Anderson Kill in 1995 and was named a shareholder in 2003.  He has been lead trial counsel in multi-party bench and jury trials and has negotiated scores of settlements, including coverage-in-place agreements, securing recoveries that total well in excess of $1 billion for his clients.  Most recently, he won a landmark $7 million judgment for DSW, the first of its kind, in a first appeals court decision addressing insurance coverage for a computer hacking loss. In finding coverage for DSW's losses stemming from the breach, the Sixth Circuit rejected the insurance company's "direct loss" defense, instead applying a proximate cause standard.  That precedent is of major importance to businesses purchasing fidelity, crime and financial institution bond coverage.

John Nevius came to Anderson Kill in 1995, was named a shareholder in 2004, and currently chairs the firm's environmental law group.  He has represented numerous Fortune 500 companies and has extensive experience trying and arbitrating complex disputes, generally involving environmental and complex-technical insurance claims.  Recently, John has obtained a string of precedent-setting pro-policyholder discovery rulings in a multi-million dollar business interruption lawsuit in New York on behalf of an energy client and assisted in the recovery of more than $150M for an electronics firm in environmental coverage and indemnity.  John also is a Registered Professional Engineer and Adjunct Law Professor who teaches classes on science and climate change.

Both Josh and John publish and speak extensively on insurance matters and have been quoted frequently in the media on insurance topics.

"Josh and John have both proved their value to policyholders over the course of many years. Both have made new law as well as helping their clients maximize insurance coverage. And as those of us lucky enough to work with them all know, they are the most collegiate, supportive and reliable of colleagues," said Robert M. Horkovich, managing shareholder of Anderson Kill.
