The recent adoption of the RLLI has not been without controversy. The result of eight years of research, discussion and consultation across the spectrum of industry stakeholders, the RLLI offers judges, practitioners and scholars a comprehensive resume of the terms, premises, and policy considerations that underlie modern insurance law.

Critics of the RLLI argue that it is insufficiently grounded in existing law, a view we have the opportunity to explore in depth, from a number of perspectives. Professor Tom Baker, Lead Reporter for the RLLI, will present a hypothetical coverage scenario which he will analyze under both the RLLI and existing common law.
