This presentation will focus on insurance and risk management in connection with blockchain development and cryptocurrency ownership and use. Our panel will discuss the application of existing insurance policies and principles to this new and developing area of technology. The technology raises many new and novel questions for the risk managers, insurance professionals and any business considering potential use or integration of blockchain. For example, how do existing insurance policies cover first and third party exposures related to lost or stolen private keys? If funds in a private wallet are unavailable because of errors in the underlying code, what coverage is available (if any) for that loss? Does the international component of many blockchain projects create special insurance challenges? What risk management and insurance basics should be taken into account when embarking on a blockchain project?
While courts have not yet answered these questions, and insurance companies are considering them with the rest of the blockchain community, we will provide insights into how business can to best position themselves to have coverage and mitigate risk.
