Edward J. ("Ted") Stein is a litigator in Anderson Kill's insurance coverage group and is the firm's general counsel and ethics partner. He has represented policyholders in environmental, directors and officers, professional liability, fidelity, and other insurance coverage cases against U.S. and London market insurers. Mr. Stein has extensive pre-trial, trial and ADR experience in these matters. Mr. Stein also has represented a broad range of clients in business, banking, and real estate litigation and in environmental litigation and compliance matters. Before joining the firm in 1997, Mr. Stein represented policyholders in similar insurance disputes and environmental matters as an associate with law firms in Los Angeles, California and Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Stein is also a member of Anderson Kill's Financial Services Industry Group, and is a past member of the Editorial board of IRMI's CGL Reporter.
Since 2010, Mr. Stein has been selected by Super Lawyers for Insurance Coverage.
Confidential Settlements - In recent years, Mr. Stein represented two regional banks in separate employee dishonesty claims involving loan losses, each of which was resolved through the insurance companies’ payment of the full respective primary limits, along with several other favorable settlements involving E&O insurance in the financial services sector, products liability insurance, fiscal event insurance, and insurance broker malpractice.Matter of Monarch Consulting, Inc. v. Allstate Insurance Co., 45 Cal. 4th 1008 (2009) Confidential Arbitration - In 2008, AK secured a multi-million dollar recovery in a confidential arbitration concerning a tax liability insurance policy which insured against the risk of IRS liability in connection with a controversial tax reduction strategy developed by a major accounting firm.
